Hi Readers !!

I’ve Always Worked On Reviewing The Main Stream Fashion Weeks But This Time I Decided To Cover The Stars Of Tommorrow, The Graduating Students Of The Pakistan Institute Of Fashion And Design. PIFD In Short. For Almost 20 Years, This Institure Has Established Many Talented And Leading Names Of the Industry. Like HSY, Maria B, Nomi Ansari, Ali Xeeshan, Mohsin Ali, Akif Mehmood And Many More. My Dream Is Also To Become A Fashion Designer And Study At this Prestigious Institute.

I Visited The Thesis Display Of the Final Year (2014), Which Was An Open/Public Invitation To Visit From Dates 19-25 May 2014. At The Lahore Campus. Above 100 Students Were Divided Over The Course Of 6 Departments I.e Fashion Design, Textile Design, Jewellery Design, Accessories And Footwear Design, Furniture Design And fashion Marketing And Merchandising.

I Started With My Favourite Section The Fashion Design Department. This Department Featured Approx 30 Students. Every Student Had To Create 5 Outfits Each With Shoes, Accessories And A Set To Compliment The Collection. The Themes In This Section Were Color full As Well As Dull & Dark, Majority Were Quite Litertal, But Many Pushed The Level Of Creativity To An All New Level. A Few Collections I Liked Were.

My Most Favourite Was the Work Inspired By The Symbols & Elements Of Nautical Life. Outfits Were Constructed By Using The Fabrics Like Jeans And Suede With Addition Of Chains. Long Boots Made Out Of Leather. Another Noteable thing was the Cubical Clutches Made Of Jeans. And the Set was Undoubtedly The Best In The Entire Segment.

Another Was The Heritage Of Subcontinent With Colourfull Fabrics And Typical Embroideries And blocked Prints.

One Of The Other Unique Work Was Inspired From The Culture Of The Nomads Of Cholistan. Dresses Made Out Of Camel Skin. Nicely Draped Articles In Camel shaded Suede And Simple Ornaments.

Another with the Subject of Incomplete stuff to be carried Aesthetically was also great in Work. The Main Objective Was That No One Focuses On The Incomplete Things And If We Try To Carry Them Aesthetically They Can Be Used As Proper Attires.

One More Which May Not Appeal Everyone But My Interests In Fashion Forced Me To Let It Entertain My Mind. The Dark collection Inspired From The Phases Of the Life Of French Queen, Marie Antoinne. Majority Used Fabric Was Printed And self Net With Embroideries. If A Little Finish Was Added It Was Done.

Noor Mahal (BahawalPur) Inspired Designs With Use Of Royal Embroideries And Fabrics Transformed to Modern Day Outfits.

The Last Of My Favs But Not The Least Was the Designs That Made To the Posters Of Thesis Display. The Collection Inspired From The Pop Culture Evolution. Made With The Techniques Of Quilting Using Colours Like Shocking Pink And Blue.

The Next Department I Stepped Into Was Leather Accessories And Footwear Department. Happy To See The Improvements In This Department From Last Year, Batch By Batch More And More Finishing And A Clearer Display Of The Inspition Is Coming Out. This Department Has least Complicated Inspirations Which Makes Execution Easier. Some Piecies I Liked Were; The Khussa Faced Velvet Boots, The Colourfull Rangoli Inspired Peshawari Chappal And Long Shoes, The Manji (Charpai) Inspired Sandals, Sandals With Laces, Jumanji Inspired Court Shoes and The Concept Of Candy/LolliPop Collection.

In My Opinion Textile Is The Most Boring Line In the Field Of Designing, Many Students Were Good With The Concepts. The One With Easy Take On & Take. Off Dresses Made Out Of Woolen Material Which Are Stretchable And Makes it Easier Removing And Putting On. Cushions Made Out Of The Shades Of Marine Life, With Fushion Of Fabrics. The Collection Constructed On The Concept Of Coconut. Use Of Softer And Harder Fabrics to give The Coco Touch. Screen Printing Of Kashmiri Art On Table Matts Covered With Silicon To Make Them Water Proof, Quite Practical, The Knotted Art Completely Handmade.

The Drepartment Of Jewellery Design And Gemological Sciences Is An Intresting One. The Students That Opted To Create Formal Jewellery Failed To Live Upto The Concept And The Ones Who Went Out To Play In The Funky Garden Created Some Mind Blowing Stuff. A Collection Made By The Use Of Baked Clay With Exotic Colous And Styles. My Favourite was A Wooden Ring With Green Gem/Stone On it.

The Furniture Design Department has The Least Population But Is Progressing. Many Intresting Form Of Art Were Brought Onto The Furniture.

ThankGod There Were Almost NO Superheroes, Robotics OR Emotional Family Drama Inspirations This Time.

Akif Mehmood (Designer), Who Is Also A PIFD Graduate, And Was One Of The Jury Members This Year For Fashion Department, He Said., “ it was an amazing experience and an honour to sit among my seniors, my teachers and principal as a jury member! Only 4 years before in the same building with same teachers and same environment I was presenting my work as a student. Im really proud to be a part of PIFD!” He Adds About The Work Of The Students This Year, “ I really liked the work of students, few of them were just amazing and had alot of potential. Some of them had amazing concepts and a vast research but I felt there collections were lacking aesthetically. But overall it was a creative batch and I wish them all the best of luck and a bright future ahead.”

Belive Me, the PIFD Students Have A Lot To Offer. Here’s Wishing All Of Them best Of Luck for Their Future.
